Terms of service
Last updated: 21 October 2026
1. Who we are
"Home Genie" (the app) is made by NK Softwares, M2R 3Y4, Ontario, Canada ("we" or "us"). Contact us at support@myhomegenie.app. These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use the app. If you don't accept them, please don't use the app.
2. What the app is, and what it isn't
The app is a private record of the appliances, equipment and vehicles in your home: their warranties, manuals, reminders and service history. It is a record-keeper. It doesn't give professional advice about repairs, safety, health or maintenance, and it doesn't replace the manufacturer's instructions, safety warnings and recalls, or a qualified technician. For anything involving gas, electricity, water, heating, vehicles or medical equipment, follow the manufacturer and a qualified professional.
Reminders depend on the dates you enter and on your phone showing them: a phone that is switched off, in battery saver, has notifications turned off or no longer has the app may not show one. Don't rely on the app alone for anything where a missed reminder could be dangerous, such as smoke or carbon monoxide alarms. Mileage figures are estimates from the readings you enter. AI Scan reads what is printed on a label and can misread it, so check the details before you save.
3. Your data stays on your phone
Everything you record is stored only on your phone, encrypted with a key that only your phone holds. We never receive it, so we can't see it, and we can't recover it for you. If you lose or reset your phone, or delete the app, without a backup file, your records are gone. Export a backup regularly and keep it, and its password, somewhere safe. If a fault in the app damages your records or your phone, section 11 explains what we're responsible for.
4. Free and Premium
The free tier holds up to 5 devices in one home. Premium is a yearly subscription sold through the App Store or Google Play, which take the payment at the price shown before you subscribe. It renews automatically every year until you cancel it in the store; cancelling stops the next renewal, and Premium stays on until the end of the year you've paid for. If the price is going to rise, the store tells you first, and you can cancel before you pay it. Premium belongs to the store account that bought it and doesn't move between iPhone and Android. The app needs to check your subscription with the store from time to time: if it can't (on Android, for 30 days; on iPhone, after the date you've paid until), Premium pauses on that phone until a check succeeds. When Premium ends or pauses, nothing is deleted: vehicles, every home except your first, and devices beyond the free 5 are locked, and they unlock again when Premium is back. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies. Nothing in these terms takes away rights your local consumer law gives you.
5. Manuals and product details
The app finds manuals on public websites, mostly manufacturers' and sellers', and your phone downloads them from there. Manuals belong to their owners and are for your personal use. Manuals and product details may be incomplete, out of date or wrong for your exact model, so always check them against the product itself. If you own the rights to a manual and want the app to stop finding it, email us.
6. Shop links
Parts links are search links to shops. We don't sell parts, and we don't check that a part fits your model. The shop sets the price, stock, delivery and returns, and what you buy is between you and the shop, under its terms. We may earn a commission when you buy through a link, at no extra cost to you; every screen with links says so.
7. Your account (optional)
You can use the app without an account. If you create one, keep your sign-in details to yourself. You can delete your account at any time: in the app under Settings › Account › Delete Account, or by emailing us from the address on the account (we finish within 30 days). Deleting your account doesn't delete the records on your phone, and it doesn't cancel Premium: cancel that in the App Store or Google Play.
8. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what little leaves your phone and why: https://myhomegenie.app/privacy
9. Using the app fairly
We give you a personal right to use the app on phones you own or control, under the App Store's or Google Play's rules. You can't transfer this right. Please don't copy, sell or rent the app, get around Premium or the app's security, or overload or misuse our servers (for example with automated manual lookups). We may limit or block lookups from a phone that does. Nothing here stops you from doing anything the law allows.
10. Changes and ending
We keep improving the app, so features may change. During a year you've paid for, we won't remove a Premium feature unless the law, security or a store requires it.
We may change these terms only for a valid reason: a change to the app or its services, the law, a regulator's guidance or a store's rules, or to make them clearer. If a change affects you, the app will tell you at least 30 days before it applies and show what changes. If you don't agree, you can stop using the app and cancel Premium before then.
You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it (export a backup first). We may stop offering the app or one of its online services, telling you in the app at least 60 days before where we can.
We may transfer these terms to a business that takes over the app; your rights under them stay the same.
11. Our responsibility to you
We're responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or not taking reasonable care. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if both of us knew it might when you started using the app.
We never exclude or limit our responsibility where the law doesn't allow it, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for the consumer rights in section 12.
We're not responsible for loss we couldn't have foreseen, for business losses if you use the app for a business, or for things outside our reasonable control, such as your phone and its software, the App Store or Google Play, the shops and websites the app links to, or internet outages.
The following paragraph does not apply in Quebec.
Otherwise, as far as the law where you live allows, our total responsibility to you is limited to the greater of what you paid for Premium in the 12 months before your claim, or 100 Canadian dollars (or the same in your currency). This limit never applies to the rights in section 12.
12. Your consumer rights
The law where you live gives you rights that these terms can't take away. For example:
- Australia: our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For a major failure with Premium, you're entitled to cancel and get a refund, or compensation for its reduced value; for a minor failure, to have it fixed within a reasonable time. You're also entitled to compensation for other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
- United Kingdom: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the app and Premium must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, and our services provided with reasonable care and skill. For advice, contact Citizens Advice.
- Canada: your province's consumer protection law applies, such as Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002 or Quebec's Consumer Protection Act.
- India: the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 applies. You can contact our grievance officer (section 15), the National Consumer Helpline (1915), or your local consumer commission.
- United States: your state's consumer protection laws apply.
13. If something goes wrong
Please email us first; most problems are quickest to fix that way. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. If you live somewhere else, you keep the protection of the laws of where you live that can't be changed by contract, and you can bring a claim in the courts or consumer bodies where you live. You don't have to use arbitration, and nothing in these terms stops you from joining a class action where the law allows it. If a court decides part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
14. Apple and Google
These terms are between you and us, not Apple or Google, and they aren't responsible for the app or its support. If you got the app from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your right to use it.
15. Extra terms for where you live
United States: Except for the promises in these terms and any rights your state's law doesn't allow us to exclude, the app is provided "as is", and we disclaim implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
California: The app is provided by NK Softwares, M2R 3Y4, Ontario, Canada. The free tier is free; Premium's price is shown before you subscribe. To resolve a complaint, email us at support@myhomegenie.app. You can also contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by phone at (800) 952-5210.
Quebec: Section 11's limit doesn't apply. Quebec law applies and you can go to Quebec courts. If we change these terms, the elements we may change are those in section 10. At least 30 days before a change, we'll send you a written notice in the app setting out the new clause, the clause it replaces and the date it applies. You can then refuse the change and cancel the contract at no cost by telling us within 30 days after it applies.
India: Our grievance officer is the Owner, support@myhomegenie.app. We acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and aim to resolve them within one month.
